"I’ve got nothing to say, but it’s ok." John Lennon
People like to say to me,” But you’re a poet, you’ve always got something new and interesting to say about everything, right?” (To which I casually reply in a nice little conspiratorial whisper,”Uh, who says so?”) People I think, may put way too much stock into the brains of their favorite artists. Show us what you’ve got, Picasso! I always think of fuming comics in these situations who are constantly being asked to say something funny—by people on the street--
just because they have said something funny once or twice before on their TVs at home. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work out that way—just like I’m pretty sure I don’t want to be asked to wax poetic on the spot. Could I, if I tried? Maybe. Possibly. But it wouldn’t be genuine, it would be pure mad entertainment. Throw money—perhaps that would do the trick.
All in all, no one can be ON all the time. It would burn you out and probably bore everyone else around you. So hats off to John, who had the balls to say it, and mean it, and still make art out of it first.
