There’s got to be much more to all this, whatever this is, than meets the wandering eye. Of that I am certain because I can feel it is so in the core of not only my own being but in the struggle of all beings. So why is it so hard for us all to get along? We’re in the same soup on some level, the soup of atoms, of molecules, of stardust and who knows what space particles. The soup of the whole of humanity. The soup of every life form on and off earth. The soup of the Milky Way. Why does it always seem to rain so many tears on us year after year? Haven’t we learned anything useful about being here together by now that really sticks in the memory and the gut like glue? Again we should try to live a lot simpler than all the complex theories of the good life would have us believe in and follow. Life is fifty million shades of gray if anything.
When I say we should try to live with some honesty I mean with real passion and not with a script. When I say we should try to live with some honesty I’m saying without playing the blame game so much together. No one ever wins. Everyone goes home feeling used and stupid. When I say we should try to live with more honesty I mean without so many lamenting regrets. I’m talking about letting go of petty hate. It only burns your hands to pieces. When I say we should try to live with honesty I’m talking about without pretense that we are somehow better or superior or more worthy of the riches of life than anyone else. There is one life when you get down to it and it is us and we are all over the place. I think that makes things much more interesting any way, don’t you? That doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful where you step, it only means you bring with you wherever you go meaning wherever you are an appreciation for the spectacular diversity of all things going. Aren't you lucky you get to see it all or as much of it as you can while you are still here? It’s a big canvas out there.
Greedy capitalists make their money no matter what the cost. Good capitalists make their money by playing smart on an even playing field. Everyone gets an opportunity and a fair shake. The greedy ones always cheat. The good ones always work hard and make hard choices based on wisdom and common sense. Greed will murder without remorse. But the good capitalists always try to do the right thing in the end. Both love money. But only one puts family first. That’s what I’m talking about here. There are systems in place all over the world. Some cause comfort and some cause chaos. The systems are not the problem. As Pogo once famously said, “We have met the enemy, and he is us!”
